THE CIRCUS 1942 - 1946

"In front of me, the little rue Madeleine, it is a street that I liked very much. Before there was a gallery and Henry Kees worked there in a bookstore, and Magritte lived there too. I was going to say hello to him with Henry Kees or Serge Creuz. He lived in a kitchen with a big black cat and a fat woman too, and in the square there were the big circuses who came to pitch their tents. I was there when they arrived and when they left. is magical to see. And I really liked the pungent, strong smell of the animals in the zoo. The great Wops was like me, he loved the circus. "
Poucette (letter to Jacques Van Maldeguem)
